We’ve been pretty quiet on this front for the last few weeks. Remodeling is a busy, busy job and doesn’t leave much time (or energy!) for blogging – but I don’t want to leave you all in the dark! So here’s a quick rundown of what’s going on at 116 W Main St, Ephrata.

The place used to belong to Fancy Schmancy Bridal Boutique (lots of you probably went there to look for your prom or wedding dress). When they went out of business at the beginning of last year, the building was left empty. The actual structure is in pretty good condition for when it was built (1850ish), but it needed a fair bit of work to be ready for Presenting You.

First off, we needed to get a special exception allowing us to live above the business. That went through without a hitch, but that was only the first step. Aside from the usual work involved in converting retail space to a home (including installing a kitchen), there was a lot of old stuff that needed to be upgraded. Old electrical wiring (we’re talking fire-hazard-level old, here), plumbing that cracked and fell apart when you tapped it, and light fixtures and wallpaper that clashed with our personal tastes as well as our business branding all had to be replaced. Of course, these simple (ha!) repairs couldn’t even begin until we had removed wall-to-wall hanging racks and mirrors – it was a bridal boutique, after all!

So where are we now? Well, re-wiring is complete, and we’re getting ready to hook up the last of the plumbing. Most of the rooms have a new coat of paint (or two, or three) on the walls. The kitchen cabinets are about ready to hang, most of the lighting is installed and working, and the front part of the business is starting to look like it might not be a construction zone forever! We had hoped to be done earlier than this, but projects like this sort of take on a mind of their own.

Once we’ve moved in, we are going to be hosting the most amazing grand opening/open house you’ve ever seen at a photography studio. We’ll have lots of goodies for everyone who comes, door prizes, and one-day discounts – mark your calendars for Saturday, March 16 because you don’t want to miss it!
